Things Haven't Changed!

I found this commercial and realized how much things haven't changed. Tax and spend is still a Democratic answer to our economic issues. History proves when you cut taxes, it spurs economic growth. Punishing companies by increasing their taxes only shuts them down and puts people out of work. Yes, it is a very nice sound bite to talk about raising taxes on the rich and big corporations but it isn't economically sound. When taxes are low the money is in the people's hands to spend as they see fit and that helps our economy. Enjoy the video!!

Look For What's Right With Our Country

I find this old commercial inspiring because it's all about what's right with our country - not just back in the 80's - but today. Take a break from the gloom and doom and watch this!

Foxx Praises Supreme Court For 2nd Amendment Ruling

The following is from a press release from NC Congresswoman Virginia Foxx.

Foxx praises Supreme Court’s Second Amendment ruling
High Court strikes down D.C.’s longstanding ban on gun ownership

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Virginia Foxx made the following statement today after the Supreme Court ruled that Washington, D.C.’s gun ownership ban was unconstitutional and in violation of the Second Amendment:

“The Supreme Court’s decision today restores the constitutional rights of the thousands of law-abiding citizens in Washington, D.C. who for decades have seen their second amendment rights stripped away by an unconstitutional gun ban,” Foxx said.

“Law-abiding Americans have the constitutional right to own guns and it is high time that D.C. residents are given the right to purchase legal guns for legitimate purposes like sport shooting or self-defense. Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a victory for individual rights and for the fundamental personal liberties every American enjoys each day.”

Note: Last year Rep Foxx signed an amicus brief that was submitted to the Supreme Court urging the Court to overturn the District of Columbia’s unconstitutional gun ban. Rep. Foxx is also a member of the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus, a group of Members of Congress dedicated to protecting the right of law-abiding individuals to own firearms as granted by the Constitution’s Second Amendment. Foxx has co-sponsored H.R. 1399, a bipartisan bill to repeal the District of Columbia’s gun ban.

Our Economy In Proper Perspective

I've just read a great article by Patrick Toomey entitled, "The Greatest Story Never Told": Today's Economy In Perspective. It is a refreshingly positive look at our economy in contrast to the daily gloom and doom you hear on TV and in the papers. It is positive, but not in a Pollyanna way.

Toomey, a Harvard grad and former US Representative (PA), shows how our nation's economy has been going on many years of economic growth. This growth has been fueled by the Reagan tax cuts and George W. Bush tax cuts.

Things are tough in our country economically, but we need to look at what Americans can do to turn our economy around. We need to look on the positive things happening with our economy, not wasting our time wringing our hands and looking for the negative. We need to put our minds on a diet - cutting out all information from the naysayers and economic end of the world prognosticators. Our economy can and will turn around but it will take back bone and not wish bone. Take a moment and read this article and take heart!

NC Citizens - Rights/Responsibilities

To quote the NC State Constitution, "The people have the right to assemble together to consult for their common good, to instruct their representatives, and to apply to the General Assembly for redress of grievances..." This is a right, and with rights come responsibility. Are you exercising your rights or shirking your responsibility?

Politics Of An Overbearing Majority

Here's a quote that I'd like you to read. "Complaints are everywhere heard from our most considerate and virtuous citizens, equally the friends of public and private faith, and of public and personal liberty, that our governments are too unstable, that the public good is disregarded in the conflicts of rival parties, and that measures are too often decided, not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority. However anxiously we may wish that these complaints had no foundation, the evidence, of known facts will not permit us to deny that they are in some degree true."

You might think this was written recently but it wasn't. This was written by James Madison on November 22, 1787 (The Federalist 10).

When I read it, it rung true with me. All too often action is not taken in Washington because it seems politics get in the way. The "overbearing majority" (Democrats) seem to be against progress on such issues as energy independence and economic stimulus. They seem more concerned over who gets the credit instead of fixing things for the people they represent. The public good is disregarded in the name of politics and this is not right.
