McCain/Obama - Fundamental Differences In Taxes

Another area where Senators McCain and Obama have a fundamental difference is in their views and policies on taxes. I would like to touch on those differences briefly.

We all have heard Obama wants to have a Robin Hood tax system - one in which he takes from the rich to give to the poor. Under Obama, the IRS would be done away with and replaced with Wealth Re-Distribution Centers. At these Centers, patriotic Americans (like Joe Biden) can have their income given away to those who don't even pay taxes!

Ok, I am just poking some fun at Senator Obama's plan. But seriously, Obama's plan is fundamentally flawed in that it will actually increase our federal deficit as we have to give tax "rebates" to those individuals who have not payed any income tax at all.

The Wall Street Journal called it a "welfare plan." The Heritage Foundation opined that the Obama tax plan would put America at tax levels equal to those in Europe. They write the following: "Senator Obama's new tax rate would give the United States one of the highest tax rates among developed countries. Currently only six of the top 30 industrial nations have a tax rate for all levels of government combined of over 55 percent. Under this tax plan, the United States would join this group and have a higher top rate than such high-tax nations as Sweden and Denmark...Historically, Senator Obama's tax rate would be the highest individual tax rate since the Jimmy Carter days." High corporate taxes are part of the Obama plan and that is not good for our country or American families.

Under the McCain tax plan, wealth and jobs are created by tax incentives for companies and blocking tax increases on individual earners. The Wall Street Journal stated the following on the McCain plan: "In stark contrast to Barack Obama, Mr. McCain believes that tax policy should be used to foster the creation of jobs and higher wages through economic growth, rather than to redistribute incomes. The economy is not a zero-sum game in which some people can enjoy higher incomes only if others are made worse off."

McCain is often criticized and his plan falsely accused of wanting to give tax credits to big oil companies. That is not true, but part of the McCain plan does offer tax credits to companies large and small. Low business taxes are very important for our economy. To overly simplify it, raise the taxes on companies and they have to pass that cost on to the consumer.

I've done some research on taxes and have written several posts on my blog about the subject of taxation. One key piece of research you will find is that higher taxes on business hurts business and consumers.

The Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan organization that monitors fiscal policy, issued a news release in August that showed American families bear the burden of high corporate taxes. They state, "Most people think corporate income taxes are paid by wealthy, anonymous companies...But as economists have been teaching for years, ultimately people bear the burden of corporate taxes, not companies. And in 2006 that burden averaged $3,190 per household. That's more than the average household spends on restaurant food, gasoline or home electricity in a year."

And an article by the Cato Institute also indicates taxing corporations does not help our economy. They say the following: "The U.S. corporate income tax rate is so high that cutting it would likely increase federal revenues because it would reduce tax avoidance while stimulating added investment...cutting the corporate tax rate by 10 percentage points or more could be a winner for both the economy and the government. "

Economic history teaches us that lower tax rates spur growth in the economy. Why? Because people have more income in their wallets. Additionally productivity and business success is not punished by higher taxes!

The McCain plan makes the most sense and is the best plan to spur economic growth.

Vote For Life

One of the fundamental differences between John McCain and Barack Obama is their stand on abortion. It is very clear that Senator McCain is pro-life and Senator Obama is pro-death (also known as pro-choice). Vote for life on election day!

I know I've shared this video before on another post, but feel it's even more important as we approach election day.

McCain/Obama - Fundamental Differences In Judicial Matters

There are many areas where John McCain and Barack Obama disagree. One of those areas deals with judicial matters. The FRC asked both candidates the following question:

Would you appoint as judges men and women who interpret a law in accordance with their personal beliefs, or apply it as written whether they would have written it that way themselves or not?

McCain's answer: Apply as written
Obama's answer: Personal beliefs

It's a scary thought to think of Obama appointing judges that make legal decisions based on personal beliefs. These are the judges that are not strict constitutionalists. They are the judges that legislate from the bench.

John McCain would appoint Supreme Court judges that would apply constitutional law based on the U.S. Constitution, not on how they feel about a certain law or what they consider should be law.

This is another fundamental difference between the two candidates and another reason to support John McCain for President.

McCain Rally In Concord, NC

Yesterday I had the privilege of volunteering at John McCain's rally in Concord, NC. We arrived at the rally at 7am and there were already people in line! It was a chilly morning and I was glad to see so many people braving the cold.

Thousands of people attended the rally. People of all races and age were in attendance. It was a rowdy crowd (in a good way!) and they cheered loudly for Senator McCain. Senator McCain gave a great speech on what he will do for our country. If I wasn't already a McCain supporter, this speech would have convinced me to vote for McCain.

You can find some pictures of the rally here. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/galleries/gallery/262377.html

A Meeting With Justice Edmunds

Yesterday I had a chance to meet Justice Edmunds of the NC Supreme Court. I had met Justice Edmunds before at the NC Home Educators convention in Winston Salem.

Yesterday Justice Edmunds once again proved he is a true public servant. He took the time to talk with me and other folks. He even took the time to talk with my kids. It is so important for our elected officials to be approachable, and Justice Edmunds is just that. He has a solid record of working hard on our behalf. I will be voting for him, and I encourage you to vote for him too.

Take a moment to check out his web site. You can find it here: http://reelectjusticeedmunds.com/index.html

Also, take a moment to review this brief video below. Re-elect Justice Edmunds!!

Here are my 5 reasons (but not my only reasons!) for not supporting Obama.
1. He is pro-abortion
2. His tax plan will hurt small business
3. He doesn't have the leadership experience we need.
4. He doesn't stand for all traditional values.
5. His government views lean towards socialism and not federalism.

National Right To Life Endorses Foxx

Virginia Foxx Receives Endorsement from National Right to Life

Clemmons— The National Right to Life PAC announced their endorsement of Congresswoman Virginia Foxx in her bid for reelection to North Carolina’s Fifth Congressional District. “I am honored to receive the endorsement of the National Right to Life PAC,” said Foxx. “Our most vulnerable members of society need and deserve the same protections of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness we all hold dear. I will continue to fight for the rights of the unborn as long as I am able.”

National Right to Life PAC Executive Director David O'Steen commended Congresswoman Foxx for her 100 percent pro-life voting record during the entire 110th Congress. Dr. O'Steen added, “Virginia Foxx’s strong pro-life record has earned her the support of all voters who are concerned with the right to life and the protection of the most vulnerable members of the human family.”

This endorsement is the most recent in a number of endorsements received by Congresswoman Virginia Foxx in her campaign for reelection this year.

Foxx Legislation Becomes Law!

The following is a press release from NC Congresswoman Virginia Foxx.

Foxx legislation signed into law
Law helps protect federal workers from ID theft, saves millions in printing/mailing costs

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Virginia Foxx’s “Electronic Paystub” legislation was signed into law this week. Her bill, the Electronic Pay Stub Act, ensures that all federal employees are given the option of receiving their pay stubs electronically. The legislation has the potential to save the federal government millions of dollars each year and will ensure federal workers’ pay stubs are delivered faster and more securely.

“This law is a common sense step that will save taxpayer dollars, reduce waste and help federal employees keep their identities secure,” Foxx said. “This legislation gives every federal employee the opportunity to receive their pay stub via a secure web site instead of in the mail. It will save millions in taxpayer dollars, dramatically reduce paper consumption and reduce the risk of identity theft for federal employees.”

Many private companies, corporations and state governments like Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, South Dakota and Nebraska offer the option of accessing employee pay stubs electronically (e-stubs). Until now the federal government has not offered this option to every federal employee. Giving all federal employees the option of accessing their pay stubs electronically will save taxpayers millions every year. In fact, a study conducted in Idaho found that paper stubs cost ten times more than e-stubs: $.30 vs. $.03.

E-stubs not only save money and paper, they are also safer than sending pay stubs via ground mail, reducing the chance of them getting lost or falling into the wrong hands. Employees who receive electronic pay stubs will be able to instantly access their pay information with considerably less risk of this information falling prey to identity theft.

The Electronic Pay Stub Act, or H.R. 6073, is the second substantive bill authored by Foxx to become law. Her first bill, the HERO Act, was signed into law on Memorial Day 2006. The HERO Act changed IRS law to allow members of the armed services to save for retirement by investing their combat pay into Individual Retirement Accounts.

ACORN Going Nuts Over Voter Fraud

ACORN, the "community activist group", is in the middle of numerous voter fraud allegations. Reports that I've read has them signing up people by offering bribes, they've signed up member of the Dallas Cowboys football team (but they weren't in Texas!), the horror stories go on and on.

In case you have missed some of the stories, here are just a few worth reading:

Obama's Tax Cut - Smoke And Mirrors

According to an article from the Wall Street Journal online, Senator Obama's tax cut plan is nothing more than an illusion. By changing tax definitions, he is able to come out looking like a tax cutter instead of a welfare state enabler (which his tax plan really is).

Under the Obama plan, government tax expenditures will increase year over year. That is money going out from the government! Will the government have enough revenues coming in to cover this?

Another concerning and contradictory part of the Obama plan is some families (with an income of $40,000) can lose approximately .40 cents for every dollar extra they earn through overtime pay. So if they earn $100 in overtime, they only pocket $60 - how is that a tax cut?

We really don't need this type of a tax cut - even if Joe Biden says it's patriotic to pay taxes!

Obama/McCain On Abortion

This election, as in all elections, is about making a choice on where a candidate stands on the issues that are important to us. One such issue is abortion. Where do the presidential candidates stand? Here's a short video that makes it clear.

McCain Warned Congress About Fannie/Freddie In 2006

Click here to see John McCain's (and Senator Elizabeth Dole) letter warning about the danger to the taxpayers of Fannie and Freddie. The letter was written in 2006.

Part of the letter says, "We are concerned that if effective regulatory reform legislation for the housing-finance government sponsored enterprises (GSEs) is not enacted this year, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole."

Coulter Shows Biden's Misstatements

In her latest column, Ann Coulter shows several examples of Joe Biden's lack of facts. Coulter starts her article with the following: "If Sarah Palin had made just one of the wildly inaccurate statements smugly uttered by Sen. Joe Biden in last week's vice presidential debate, there would have been 3-inch headlines in newspapers across America. (I can almost hear Katie Couric asking me, "Which newspapers?")"

Foxx Endorsed By NRA

FOXX ENDORSED BY NRA FOR PRO-GUN OWNER VOTING RECORD

Clemmons, N.C.—The campaign of Congresswoman Virginia Foxx today announced the National Rifle Association's endorsement of Foxx's re-election campaign. Foxx, who is a lifetime member of the NRA, received the NRA's endorsement for her solidly pro-Second Amendment voting record.

"Our right to bear arms is a precious Constitutional freedom that I will continue to tirelessly defend in Congress," Congresswoman Foxx said. "At a time when anti-gun liberals are fighting to restrict our right to bear arms it is a great honor to receive the NRA's endorsement for my pro-gun record."
